AFF HEATHCOTE DRAG DAY

The weather was looking a little bleak as we headed off on Friday afternoon to head to Heathcote for the AFF Drag Day but as soon as we got out of metro Melbourne, the weather had cleared into a sunny day.

We decided to go to the Friday night test N tune as we wanted to do a few runs to see what the coupe would now run with it’s 351 manual engine. We also planned on spending the night camping at the track.

Upon arrival there were already a few people there, so we picked a bay in the pit area and set about getting ready to race.

It wasn’t long before we had the coupe scrutineered and we were ready to race! I decided to do my first run with Jack in the passenger seat. I completely forgot it was a manual until I heard Jack – Change gears!

We managed to get 18 runs in on the Friday night before we blew a High pressure power steering hose. Called Craig on Friday night and he kindly offered to bring a replacement one with him on Saturday if he could find one.

Moya (Craig’s wife) jumped on the internet and located a place in Bendigo that had a 24hr service. We decided to give them a call first thing on Saturday morning. They said come on down and we will fix it. Took them all of 10mins to replace the hose and we were ready to race again!

There was also a strong contingent of Coupe racers that drove over from Adelaide for the event. Was great to catch up with the SA guys and see their coupes run down the track.

Jack ended up running the car on Saturday as I wasn’t up to it. He managed to run a 14.8796 @ 95.62 MPH. We went with the goal of anything under a 16 second pass we would be happy with so needless to say we are happy with what the car ran!

We had an absolutely fantastic weekend. Big thanks to Craig and Moya for their help in finding a place to fix the hose. A big shout out to Terri James who came out to watch on the weekend. Was great to catching up with one of our distant club members. Was an opportune time to get some great pics of our coupes together too.

Lastly a HUGE thankyou to Australian Ford Forums for running the event, Heathcote Park Raceway for their professionalism in how the event was run, all the competitors that raced on the weekend and the spectators that came to watch.

We look forward to the Australian Ford Forum Drag Nationals being held on 24th July 2010. This is an event not to be missed with over $3000 prize money and trophies on offer.

Cheers

Colleen
