Bowling Night - Saturday 29th August 2009

On a cold, wet miserable, night in Melbourne, fifteen brave souls venture out into the darkness to compete in the FCC’s Annual  Bowling Tournament. Clearly the fierce competition in past years had scared off a number of contenders, but twelve of the strong willed were in for the challenge (Tracey, Kelly and I were there purely to watch this mesmerising spectator sport). Previous years had taught us that the hot favourites were Roger, Jamie and Dave R, so we strategically placed them in separate lanes.

Game one commenced with Roger playing possum and keeping his score low to sucker everyone into a false sense of security.-  Tactics were clearly at play here! Colleen commenced the night with a strike – Watch out boys, there was some serious competition here (or so we thought!) It was generally a slow start as participants warmed up but after 10 frames, Craig had won Game One, with Jamie hot on his heels and Josh in third place.

By Game Two, fun and games had commenced. Col and Susie had their dancing down pat,

Lindsay, Craig and Marita had double strikes, and Roger’s mojo kicked in as he scored the only triple strike of the night. (Three strikes and still not out! Way to go Roger!)

Anne placed it safe and used the bumpers to beat hubby Alan’s score. and Dave R generously decided to give others a chance at victory this year by playing conservatively. While Jamie kept his cool and mounted a serious challenge against Craig, Jo was creating her own luck by bringing along her private cheer squad. (She may need a bigger cheer squad for next year!)

Outstanding bowl of the night-      Colleen - Releasing the ball back into the crowd.

Colleen  - bouncing a gutter ball off a dislodged pin and back onto the lane to score.

Most professional looking bowler – Roger.

Most  improved contender -             Marita

The evening finished with a laid back dinner at the Pancake Parlour, with good conversation and the company of friends.

Special thanks to Craig for organising the event.

Moya.

Scores for the evening were tallied and the results were:

1st place – Craig, 2nd Place – Jamie, 3rd place - Roger, and Alan received the ‘Needs Help’ award.

The FCC spared no expense on trophies for the event (as evidenced in this photo.)
