The weather gods spared us this time around at Calder as we were presented with a cool, overcast day for the club run which was a major improvement on last year which resembled the coming of the next ice age!!

After we made our way there, got our cars scrutineered and had the drivers briefing we were ready to hit the track. Well, at least some of us!! Lindsay and Trevor got out on the track early while I helped Dave with a last minute adjustment bolting on a new carby!!

Dave and I finally made the track, Jamie joined in for a few laps before reverting to the Corolla of death for a bit of fun. We all got down to some pretty handy times but my Calder curse started to kick in. For some reason I kept throwing alternator belts, chucking two in fairly quick succession. Upon closer inspection it looks like Ive got a dud lower pulley. After lunch I threw another belt then lost the oil gauge and started losing diff oil through a rear wheel bearing. I decided to call it a day at that point. I didnt get many flying laps in but pulled a best of 1:15:54.

Trevor circulated in his stock XD for a best of 1:32:37 with no problems at all.

Jamie punched out pretty consistent times in his XA in the 1:23 to 24 range for a best of 1:23:49.

Dave was pulling times within the 1:17 to 18 range, having a trouble free run with his new out of the box carby working a treat. He got a best of 1:15:54 which really made his day.

Lindsays times were mostly in the 1:18 range and achieved a best of 1:17:56 pretty early in the day. Unfortunately Lindsay lost his engine not long after lunch. It didnt look good parked next to the start/finish line with coolant pouring out of the tail pipes, the diagnosis being a dropped valve. These things happen. Hopefully well see Lindsay back on the road soon.

It was a great turnout for the club with Craig, Roger, Gary, Phil, Peter and Con coming along to spectate and increase the presence of coupes around the place. All of us on the track certainly appreciated the support.

Hopefully well see a few more coupes on the track next year.

Big thanks to the Falcon Fairlane club for organizing this event and inviting us to participate.

See ya on the road, Stu.
