Australian Muscle Car Show – Caribbean Gardens – 27th April 2008

The weather gods were kind to us today, the rather dire sounding forecast of rain and hail did not eventuate but boy, it was cold!!

Craig and Moya went straight to the venue to claim our territory while the rest of us assembled at the Notting Hill Pub car park. The pre-event entertainment was almost as good as the show. No less than three cars in around five minutes left the Bunnings store across the road, trying to do the almost impossible. Ranging from timber materials running the length of the cars to other hardware stock hanging out the windows. One of the offending cars was a Volvo so maybe that was expected but one was a Mercedes as well. It was an amusing way to begin our event. Before too long it was time to head over to Caribbean Gardens.

We rolled in and Craig waved us to our area in the top car park. We ended up with a total of thirteen coupes on display which made us the best represented club there. There was some tasty machinery there of all persuasions but the overall attendance was a bit thin on the ground.

After a while the gate to the car park where the show was held was unattended and the result was a lot of regular shoppers coming in and parking among the display cars which really detracted from the whole show.

The highlight was the guys at Grand Tourer Restorations bringing the ex Murray Carter XY GTHO Phase 3. What a car!! What a find!! Apparently they came across this car by accident which is fantastic, another historic racing Ford found and rescued.

From a club perspective, the turnout was great despite the Arctic conditions. The BBQ went down a treat and a big “well done” to Stuart for taking out the hardware for Best Hardtop with his XB GT.

It was a good day out but we were glad to head home and thaw out!!
