John has an XA Fairmont Coupe that was built in August 1972. It is a K code 351 (matching numbers) with an auto and 9 inch diff. It has air conditioning and power windows. This car won Best XA at the Hardtop Anniversary at Echuca in 2007. John takes up the story: |

I was asked to sell a house for someone. They had a Superbird rusting away in the driveway and were about to call the crushers. I rang my Brother Rob (also a club member) who has an XA GT Sedan and said "Do you need a parts car?" He said "No, but you need a hobby!!" So the Superbird ended up at my place until my wife said "Fix it or sell it". So knowing my limitations it was sold and replaced by a rust free and near perfect XA Sedan but with no street cred!! |

This was sold after a year when I found the Walnut Glow coupe sitting in the car park of a local Croydon supermarket. The owner was a lovely old gentleman who had owned it for 33 years and didn't want to part with it but when the time came he kindly rang me at my office. I paid what he wanted and proudly drove it home. It was pretty straight and reasonably rust free but has now had a full respray and interior tidy up. |

I've since shown it to the original owner and he's happy it's gone to someone who appreciates it like he did. I have a BA XR6 Turbo to drive during the week but there is nothing better than a sunny Sunday morning in the coupe, particularly if it's heading to the Shell Westgate for a club run. I have been a club member for 2 years now. The best aspect of the club is the welcoming atmosphere at meetings and runs, also the technical advice and tips from various club members. |
