Ford Coupe Club at “Love the Beast” Cinema Nova.
It was with great anticipation we awaited the release of this much talked about movie thinking it was about time another car oriented movie came out to hopefully go down in history alongside iconic movies such as “Mad Max” and “Running on Empty”.
We were lucky enough to be invited to the Cinema Nova in Lygon St for a special preview screening on Wednesday 25th February 2009. The extremely generous folks at Cinema Nova gave the club lots of free double passes for the screening and needless to say we had a huge turnout.
The movie was great, everything we thought it would be. This was so much more than just another car movie. It was touching, funny and a very personal insight to Eric Bana and the connection he has with his XB Coupe AKA The Beast. It also explains the importance of hobbies, having a passion in life and the importance of friendships. It spoke to all of us and so many of us personally identify with it.
A couple were excluded from this screening. Jack & Colleen, Stuart and Dave S. Shocking you may think but there was something very special in store for those four!!
The following Tuesday 3rd March 2009 they were invited to an exclusive screening followed by a 30 minute Q&A session with Eric Bana himself!! How cool is that!! The MC in the cinema even gave the Ford Coupe Club a plug. In return for this all they needed to do was to have their coupes parked in reserve parking on Lygon St directly outside the cinema. They looked great in “traffic light” formation and drew heaps of interest. Roger, John and I were on guard duty outside and we fielded heaps of enquiries about the club. The most common comment we heard was “I had one of those, wish I never sold it!!”
That lucky foursome also enjoyed the movie and had a great time. They also gave Eric a couple of club polo shirts. It’d be a great to see him wearing one!!
In all this was a very enjoyable couple of nights out and great exposure for our club. A big “thank you” to Sue Curwood and the staff at Cinema Nova in Carlton for involving us in this promotion and for a memorable time.
Happy Cruising, Craig.
