What a great day out!! The weather was perfect for a collection of coupes, and a matching pair of 4 door XB GT brothers as well. The cruise out was a bit of a chore getting through and around the city as there was a fun run on blocking part of the Westgate Freeway. Damn inconsiderate fitness types!! |

Anyway, we all made it through and met up with a couple of local members at the Liberator Bomber restoration hangar. Fantastic!! This is something everyone should see. The crew that flew this thing and others like it during WW2 were pretty gutsy, that's for sure!! |

They are powered by 4 Pratt and Whitney 14 cylinder radial engines rated at 1200hp each. They had one of these bad boys in running condition and fired it up. What a treat, and the noise!! |

There is so much WW2 memorabilia there as well, awesome stuff. After a few snags in bread it was time to head over to the RAAF base at Point Cook. The museum there is brilliant and the restoration hangar tour was seriously good. There is a Mosquito restoration happening there as well as a replica of the first plane to land there in 1914 or so. Us guys really got into the engineering side of things. An afternoon picnic followed on the lawns which was the perfect end to a great day out. Here's some pics. I ran out of camera batteries at the RAAF base so got none from there. |
