Lindsay first man out
Well my first article, here goes. (next time I need to take notes) We met most of the other combatants at the Comfort Motor Inn on the Saturday afternoon before the event. There were that many cars and trailers we just managed to fit them all in. It wasn't helped that a mysterious small dark blue sedan was parked in a bad position. We never did find the owner! A good night was had by all at the Royal hotel that evening. I believe a few of the lads from Ford Performance got a tad rowdy.
Sunday dawned a beautiful blue cloudless day. Festivities started with Dave Schache leading the first timers on a tour of the track in the bronze XD. Next Lindsey led out the first serious bunch in his white coupe and he didnt hold back. It was all on after that. There was plenty of variety.
Murrays self sponsored XR6
An immaculate yellow genuine 69 Boss 302 that was driven with plenty of enthusiasm until the engine let go on the straight in front of the Kiosk for all to see. It had a for sale sign on it so I'm sure the price may have dropped after the incident. A silver grey 65 mustang that must have had an 8 grand redline, it went hard everywhere. A saleenmustang, a convertible mustang , a propane powered, supercharged Wild VoiletXY GT, a 6 wheel enclosed trailer and tow car that wouldnt have looked out of place at a major race meet. It had a seriously quick Track Red XY GT hidden inside. A dark blue XD panel van that went quick in a straight line, the list goes on..
The Tas Cobra flanked by the freshly repaired XB of Colleen & Jack and Stu & DavesXD. Graeme's Goss special in the background.
The club was well represented though not all the cars left as good as they arrived:
Rodgers reliable XB developed a rear axle oil leak on left hand corners only. The re-enginedHoskins brothers XB (Now 302 V8) took a dislike to its radiator which needed to be replaced. Even the kids helped. The sun bronzed XD of Stu & Dave decided it didn't want to pump oil into its engine & retired early. Tasin the XE Cobra (its blue & white) had the opposite problem, it wanted to pump its oil out of its new engine via the sump gaskets.
I had the Morley Ford Falcon there and Murray Carter took it for a spin. It suffered from a very leaky front tyrewhich was annoying. Highlight was
Dave R had the XD there and was in fine form. Craig and Allan also dropped in for a look. It was a great day and there were lots of smiling faces. A fair number of cars took passengers on high speed laps. It was nice to see the kids being taken for a ride by dad. Pass on the passion I say. Thanks to the track marshals and tow car drivers the unsung heroes of these events.
Lets hope we can do it again in 2010! What about it Stu? Phil?
